26 <title>Jabber Account Details</title>
28 <p>Most Jabber accounts will require only a login ID and a password
29 to connect. For some accounts or on certain types of networks, you
30 may need to enter additional information in the <gui>Advanced</gui>
31 section. Normally, you will not need to use the advanced options
32 below. For general instructions on adding an account, see
33 <link xref="add-account"/>.</p>
36 <p>Google Talk is a type of Jabber account. These instructions
37 hold for Google Talk accounts as well.</p>
42 <title><gui>Encryption required (TLS/SSL)</gui></title>
43 <title><gui>Ignore SSL certificate errors</gui></title>
44 <p>Whenever possible, communication between <app>Empathy</app> and
45 the Jabber server is encrypted. If encrypted communication is not
46 possible, messages may be sent unencrypted. Select <gui>Encryption
47 required</gui> to prevent <app>Empathy</app> from communicating with
48 the Jabber server when encryption is not possible.</p>
49 <p>Some Jabber servers may encrypt data using invalid certificates,
50 or using certificates from unknown authorities. If you trust the
51 server you are connecting to, you can select <gui>Ignore SSL
52 certificate errors</gui> to allow encrypted communication with
53 invalid certificates.</p>
56 <title><gui>Resource</gui></title>
57 <title><gui>Priority</gui></title>
58 <p>If you have multiple applications (for instance, on separate computers)
59 connected to your account at the same time, you can set a resource to
60 uniquely identify each one. By default, <app>Empathy</app> will use
61 <input>Telepathy</input> as the resource.</p>
62 <p>You can set the priority to specify which application should receive
63 incoming messages from your contacts. New messages will be sent to the
64 application with the highest priority.</p>
67 <title><gui>Override server settings</gui></title>
68 <p><app>Empathy</app> will use default settings to connect to the
69 Jabber server based on your login ID. For some Jabber servers, you
70 will need to enter custom server settings manually. These settings
71 should be provided for you by your Jabber provider.</p>
